Seye Ogunlewe Misses Out On Bronze Medal At The Commonwealth Games Despite Finishing The Race At The Same Time As Yohan Blake

Nigeria’s Seye Ogunlewe has agonisingly missed out on a podium finish at the 2018 Commonwealth Games

Jamaica’s Yohan Blake was forced to settle for bronze in the men’s 100m final at the Commonwealth Games, with South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Henricho Bruintjies claiming gold and silver respectively.

Yohan Blake was played catch-up throughout the race as South Africa claimed a memorable one-two at Carrara Stadium.

Simbine – a fifth-placed finisher at the Rio Olympics in 2016 – tore clear of the rest of the pack to post a time of 10.03s, 0.14s quicker than his closest challenger Bruintjies.

Bruintjies, who failed to even make it through his heat in Rio, crossed the line in 10.17s, beating Blake to silver by the narrowest of margins.

Yohan Blake also almost missed out on a medal entirely, finished in exactly the same time as Nigerian Seye Ogunlewe in fourth.
